Directionally correct.

It's easy to go insane in the AI field. Things are changing so fast, startups are going out of business every week, new frontier models are being released every month.

The amount of change in such a short period of time is unheard of.

Because of this, it's very hard (if not impossible) to make any meaningful multi-year plans. You simply cannot know what the world will look like in 5+ years. Nobody does.

This fact tends to create a feeling of confusion, dread, uncertainty in people. Not having any idea of where we're headed, or how to plan, or what to do, can mess with you A LOT.

Directionally correct. This is the answer to all of the chaos, confusion and uncertainty. Stop focusing on a single clear outcome. Stop trying to control the future. Stop attempting to predict what may or may not happen. And focus fully on being directionally correct.

What does "directionally correct" actually mean?

It means doing things that are in the right direction. You might not know for certain if doing X will lead to something, but you feel that doing X is almost certainly beneficial, and will move you closer to your goals.

For example, if you want to build a billion-dollar AI company, you should probably become more technical. Becoming more technical (aka better at systems design, codebase architecture, software design...) is not going to hurt you. In fact, it will most likely greatly help you become a founder that can build a company worth billions.

If you want to become a professional football player, you probably don't know what your path to being a Pro will look like. Which clubs you will play for, what people will play a role, and so on. However, there are plenty of things that are obviously directionally correct, such as improving your cardio.

You need to look for the AI version of "improving your cardio" in order to not go insane. Every day, do the things that are obvious. Do the things that are obviously directionally correct. Stop overthinking and just do them.

Get very clear about what your goals are, and it will become obvious what things are, and what things aren't, directionally correct.

As Steve Jobs said... "You can't connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backward."
